The Lucky Cowboy - biography

Who is that crazy cowboy?

Lucky was born at a very young age in the "Land of Lincoln."  Alton, Illinois, to be exact, is where old Lucky is from. Alton is famous for its celebrities of stage and screen. Remember Robert Wadlow, the tallest man in the world? How about TV star Clint Walker of "Cheyenne" and Butch Calvey the singer? Alton is also where one of the famous Lincoln/Douglas debates took place, and where Bluff City Beer was made. It seems Lucky was just destined to be a famous person.

In his early years, Lucky appeared at the Madison Avenue Corral in Alton as a live DJ for WOKZ radio. He's been a trapeze artist, a motorcycle stunt rider, and even hosted his own carnival. He was a National Indian Chief for the Boy Scouts of America and managed a scout camp. Lucky spent some time in Minnesota where he still has many country fans.

Nowadays, old Lucky is based in Nashville, TN, Music City USA. Here he founded Lucky Cowboy Productions. You might catch him anywhere in Nashville, or somewhere in the rest of the USA promoting country music. He's even been on the Today Show! But you'll always find him wearing his famous forty gallon orange cowboy hat - you can't miss him wherever he goes.

Lucky's favorite song is "I Feel Lucky." His handprints are on the WE Fest "Walk of Fame," and there's even a ceramic bobblehead doll of Lucky. Yep, you can bet old Lucky will continue to be a star in his own right.

Watch out for Lucky as you might just get "Lucky!" Yeeeeeeeeehaw!!! Let's Party Like A Cowboy! LUCKY COWBOY Since 1992

We're celebrating Rodney's "Farmer's Daughter" with of course......Farmer's Daughter photos. Yee Haw for Rodney!

I was haulin hay, I was feedin the hogs
and that summer sun had me sweatin like a dog
So I cooled off in the creek
then it was back to work in the daggum heat
I was cussin' out loud, thinkin bout quitin'
Lookin' back now I'm sure glad I didn't
Cuz just when i thought it couldn't get no hotter
I caught glimpse of the farmer's daughter.

Rodney Atkins’ latest single, “Farmer’s Daughter,” is currently racing up the iTunes download charts and the song’s just-released video is now airing on Turbo Track rotation on Great American Country (gactv.com).

I caught glimpse of the farmer's daughter.

Atkins’ tune about a hot summer romance that turns to true love has become the fastest climbing single in the singer’s career, selling more than 140,000 downloads on iTunes in only a few weeks. His previous No. 1 hits, “If You’re Going Through Hell,” “These Are My People,” and “Cleaning This Gun,” are approaching three-quarters of a million single downloads and with the rapid rise of “Farmer’s Daughter,” he is sure to break the million mark soon.

Filming the video in rural Franklin, Tennessee, Atkins got a taste of authentic farm life, driving a tractor and bucking hay. The clip which features Atkins’ real-life wife, Tammy Jo, as the “Farmer’s Daughter” whom he ends up marrying.

“Farmer’s Daughter” is the fourth single from Atkins’ third studio album It’s America. The title cut went to No. 1. Atkins’ 2006 album If You’re Going Through Hell yielded four chart-toppers.

"A Little More Country Than That"

LUCKY COWBOY COUNTRY NEWS
SEPTEMBER 03, 2010
NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE

Brooks & Dunn Are Going Away Now
And They're Taking a Lot of Fond Memories With Them

I think in many ways that a lot of people took Brooks & Dunn for granted. Now that they're gone, a big chunk of country music history goes with them. And I hate to see them go.

When Brooks & Dunn announced the Nashville finale for the Last Rodeo, Brooks & Dunn hinted that it would have a superstar lineup as they gave all the proceeds from their end-of-the-road concert to the Country Music Hall of Fame, located across the intersection from the Bridgestone Arena.

But when the last chord rang out and the lights went up on the sold-out auditorium at Thursday’s last-ever Brooks & Dunn show, you could count the extra artists who showed up on two fingers: Tyler Dickerson, who turned in a solid six-song opening set that sounded more mature than his chronological age — 16 — would suggest; and Reba McEntire, who kicked into gear for the last chorus of “Cowgirls Don’t Cry” a little more than half-way into B&D’s two-hour farewell.

Without the fanfare, it felt oddly like a regular Brooks & Dunn show. Kix Brooks broke into a bittersweet smile and doffed his cowboy hat at the end of the aptly titled “You’re Gonna Miss Me (When I’m Gone).” It looked on the video screen as if perhaps, just maybe, he was tearing up, but you couldn’t be certain.

And a 15-minute video package — introduced by GAC’s Storme Warren — featured band members, crew guys and management talking with admiration about their experiences with the duo. It was clear that Brooks & Dunn are — or, as it now stands, were — a class act.

But there was no big bow at the end, no on-stage breakdowns and no parade of stars sending them off into the sunset.

“This is not a funeral,” Kix insisted. “We did show up to party.”

And they did. Brooks & Dunn cranked it out heavy at the beginning, kick-starting things with “Play Something Country,” “You Can’t Take The Honky Tonk Out Of The Girl,” “Mama Don’t Get Dressed Up For Nothing” and “Put A Girl In It.” And they finished in a flourish with “Rock My World (Little Country Girl),” “Only In America” and — during the two-song encore — “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” and “Brand New Man.” They also threaded the production with plenty of their trademark gimmicks: a giant steer head, a longhorn mirror ball, Kix’s whirling-dervish stage presence and blasts of confetti at two different junctures in the show.

In between, they hit a wide patch of songs that fanned their range of influences, from the Rolling Stones to Merle Haggard to the pre-Hotel California Eagles. They rolled through the drawled country of “How Long Gone,” Ronnie Dunn’s dramatic rendition of the ballad “It’s Getting Better All The Time” and the one-two spiritual punch of “Red Dirt Road” and “Believe.”

Since their national debut in 1991, Brooks & Dunn have been a heavy presence on the tour circuit, and the oddest part of watching the whole show unfold was thinking that for each of those songs, it might be the last time we see many of them performed live by two guys who became a sonic undercurrent to life in the heartland.

The finale had originally been planned for Aug. 10, but when Ronnie was put on vocal rest, the duo had to rejigger the schedule. Perhaps that’s a big reason there were so few guests. Perhaps not.

Since it had the air of a typical B&D show, it didn’t feel quite as final as maybe it could have. They certainly went out with a party atmosphere, but it’s so much a part of their persona that it was tough to feel like it really was the end.

Nevertheless, the location and the cause were perfect. Because when all is said and Dunn, Kix and Ronnie are a lock for membership in the Country Music Hall of Fame. It’s not really a question of if, just a matter of when.

Lucky Cowboy Sez: "I'm waiting for the Brooks & Dunn Reunion Tour."

The McClymonts -- Meet Three Awesome Aussies
Sam, Molly, Brooke

Sam, Molly, Brooke McClymont fresh from Australia
VISIT: THE MCCLYMONTS

They're a well-established (and multiple-award-winning trio) in their Australian homeland, but for the McClymonts, conquering country music in the U.S. is an entirely new challenge. But with wit, energy, beauty and charm to spare, sisters Mollie, Brooke and Sam put a fresh 'down under' spin on country that already has audiences here taking notice. They've even "opened" for Ozzy Osbourne!

The McClymonts' U.S. debut album, 'Chaos and Bright Lights,' coincides with their first official U.S. concert dates which began earlier this month. The sisters are soon to open a series of shows for Jason Aldean, having already shared a stage him and also with superstars Lady Antebellum. They've also been the recipients of numerous honors, including four CMAA (Country Music Association of Australia) awards and the Group of the Year honor at the Golden Guitar Awards three years in a row. Earlier this year, their single 'Finally over Blue' even knocked the Eagles from their chart-topping 10-month run on the Australian radio airplay charts.

The McClymonts, hail from Grafton, New South Wales on the northern coast of Australia. Check them out: THE MCCLYMONTS

Taylor Swift, Keith Urban Go Corporate in Minneapolis
August 27, 2010

Keith Urban and Taylor Swift were at Target on Wednesday night (Aug. 25), but they weren't shopping, that's for sure. Instead, they were entertaining folks at the discount chain's annual managers meeting along with John Legend, Enrique Iglesias and Charice. Swift posted a Twitpic of her kissing the company dog -- the white one with the red bulls-eye painted on his face. Earlier that day she posted a picture of the audience, all in their company uniforms, and said, "So, red was a common theme today in the Minneapolis fashion scene."

Taylor Swift's Donates $100,000 To Hometown Playground

Taylor Swift's $100,000 donation will help rebuild a playground in Hendersonville, Tenn., where she attended high school and lived with her family prior to moving into her own condo in Nashville.

Swift's charitable fund had originally given the money for area flood relief, but her business manager later suggested the funds go toward updating the Kids Kingdom play area, as well as the city's volleyball courts. The director of the city's parks, Dave LeMarbre, told the Hendersonville Star-News the donation was completely unexpected. "It's overwhelming," he said. "We didn't expect that. We appreciate Taylor's donation as well as all the others who have stepped up." The old playground is expected to be torn down in late fall and rebuilt in early 2011, according to the publication. The estimated cost of the playground is $175,000.

The 17-year-old superstar and the 20-year-old actor have called it quits after a year. The pair met last summer on the set of their film “The Last Song,” and the romance was very public, although the two were frequently separated by distance.

Miley is currently filming the movie “LOL” and is rumored to be seeing co-star Adam Sevani, a former boy bander and creator of the ACDC dance crew. The breakup isn’t much of a surprise, since Miley’s always been fickle and isn’t ready to settle down yet.

Brad Paisley & Carrie Underwood to Host 44th Annual CMA Awards Show

For the third year in a row Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood will return as hosts on the 44th Annual CMA Awards Show. The show will take place in Nashville on Wednesday, Nov. 10, airing on ABC starting at 8 p.m. Eastern/7 Central.

“The CMAs are different from any other awards night,” said Brad. “You’re looking at a roomful of people who love each other. And any new viewer will be pleasantly surprised at what they relate to on the Awards and what they like that they had no idea they would like. For that reason alone, this is the most important night of the year for country music.”

“It’s all about country Music,” said Carrie. “We all live here. This is our community. The CMA Awards are in Nashville, the home of country music. It’s great to come here and celebrate that every year.”

Grand Ole Opry Country Comes Home September 28!

August 25, 2010 -Brad Paisley, Little Jimmy Dickens Celebrate Return of Grand Ole Opry's Wooden Circle. Historic Section of Stage Damaged During May Floods in Middle Tennessee.

The famous wooden circle has been restored and placed at center stage at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville after the venue was extensively damaged following the May flooding. Opry members Brad Paisley and Little Jimmy Dickens presided over the Wednesday morning (Aug. 25) ceremony, helping a small crew of workers lift and lower the circle into the floor.

The six-foot oak circle was taken from the stage of the Ryman Auditorium, where countless country legends had stood on it during the Opry's tenure there, and moved to the Grand Ole Opry House in 1974 for its debut performance at the new venue. However, the circle and the entire Opry stage was covered in 46 inches of water during the May flood. A variety of venues have hosted the show in the interim, including local auditoriums, churches and colleges, with no cancellations since the flood.

Country Comes Home: Grand Ole Opry Announces September 28

The Opry has just announced a return to the Grand Ole Opry House on September 28 and the stars are lining up for this historic homecoming. Join us as Trace Adkins, Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Jimmy Dickens, Montgomery Gentry, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, Josh Turner, and many more step back into the circle for the first time since the flood.

Grand Ole Opry officials today announced that the show, displaced from its permanent home due to May's historic Nashville flood, will return to the Grand Ole Opry House with a star-packed show Tues., Sept. 28. Among the artists scheduled for the show are Trace Adkins, Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Charlie Daniels Band, Diamond Rio, Jimmy Dickens, Del McCoury Band, Montgomery Gentry, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, Mel Tillis, and Josh Turner. The show will air live on GAC: Great American Country. Special events and artist appearances will follow throughout October in celebration of both the show's return and its 85th Birthday.

The announcement came just before the Opry House's signature element, a six-foot circle of oak wood taken from the historic Ryman Auditorium when the show moved to the Grand Ole Opry House in 1974, was returned this morning to its home center stage at the Opry House. The circle, along with the full Opry stage, had been covered by 46 inches of water during May's flood. Rescued immediately after waters receded from the Opry House, the circle has been painstakingly refurbished. The country music treasure was placed in its rightful spot with assistance from Dickens and Paisley. The two Opry members then took to the circle behind an Opry microphone stand for an acoustic performance of the country classic "Will the Circle be Unbroken."

To celebrate the renovation, the public is invited to a free open house on Oct. 2 to see the new stage and dressing rooms. The Opry will also celebrate its 85th anniversary on Oct. 8 and 9, while the Judds will be there Oct. 15 to flip the switch to turn the Opry backdrop pink in support of breast cancer awareness month.

More information about artist line-ups and special events will be updated as it becomes available at OPRY.COM

New Taylor Swift hits stores on October 25

Excitement's ramping up for country/pop megastar Taylor Swift's upcoming album, Speak Now, which is set to hit stores on October 25 — her camp shared the cover art on Wednesday.

Kenny Chesney "Boys Of Fall"

Kenny Chesney was 17 when he first got used to playing in front of packed stadiums. A documentary is scheduled to air Sunday (Aug. 29) on ESPN.

Back then, though, he was playing football, not country music. And the stadiums weren't the massive constructions he headlines these days, they were the high school stadiums of East Tennessee. Back then, he was a starting receiver for Gibbs High School in Corryton, Tenn., a rural community in northeast Knox County.

Though Gibbs' offense was not known for its passing game and Chesney knew he wasn't meant for the football big-time, the football experience stayed with him throughout his rise to a spot among the top ticket-sellers in all of music.
Kenny Chesney's fascination with football at all levels is evident in Boys of Fall, a documentary scheduled to air Sunday on ESPN. It features Chesney's interviews with Joe Namath, John Madden, Brett Favre, Sean Payton, Nick Saban, Phil Fulmer and many other college and pro football notables.

"Football is as universal as music, almost," Chesney said. "From the kids who play to the moms and dads driving them to practice, to the coaches and fans, there are a lot of people with something invested in it."

The documentary began with a video shot for his football-themed single Boys of Fall, and it grew to feature scenes from Tennessee high school teams at Battle Ground Academy, Montgomery Bell Academy, Greenbrier and Westmoreland, from the Croft Middle School team and from Pop Warner units the Franklin Cowboys, the Goodlettsville Trojans and the Brentwood Mustangs.

BURNS & POE BREAKOUT WITH BEST BREAK-UP STORY
Country Music Duo Teams With Silpada Designs,
New Single: “How Long Is Long Enough”
Broken Heart Slogan Promotion

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Tuesday, August 24, 2010)—Blue Steel Records flagship artist and country music’s red hot duo, Burns & Poe, has announced a timely contest in conjunction with their new single release, “How Long Is Long Enough,” in partnership with Silpada Designs, Country Weekly magazine and country radio.

Burns & Poe (Keith Burns/Michelle Poe), dubbed the Sonny and Cher of Country, with Barbie and Ken looks and the charismatic chemistry of Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, celebrate the release of their second single “How Long Is Long Enough.”* The Keith Burns and Frankie Golden-penned tune embraces the emotions of heartache and loneliness after a break-up.

In keeping with Burns & Poe comedic character, to turn the sentiment around, Keith and Michelle have launched a fitting contest inviting country music fans to submit their best/worst break-up slogan (ex. “The Fastest Way To Get Over A Broken Heart Is A Margarita And A New Pair Of Red Stilettos!”).

Country Weekly magazine and country radio stations (from the east coast to the west coast and areas in between) will host the promotion. The lucky Country Weekly reader and country radio listener that submits the award-winning slogan will be presented with a Silpada watch—the same time piece Keith Burns sports on the single CD cover and in all current media shots. (Silpada Designs sponsored Burns & Poe in their most recent photo shoot encompassing shots for their web page, media pictures and CD artwork.) The contest begins September 15 and will run through Sunday, November 7, 2010. (The close of daylight savings time.)

For more information about Burns & Poe, the “How Long Is Long Enough” Contest (presented by Silpada Designs and Country Weekly Magazine), including tour dates and album updates, please visit: BURNS AND POE

Leann Rimes Has Got Talent - In a bikini!!!
'America's Got Talent' Show Results

August 18, 2010

The beach may be a long way off from that country porch she's singing about, but Leann Rimes is clearly aware of how nice she looks in a bikini.

During the "America's Got Talent" results show, the country star made a play to erase several years of bad press by peeling off a few layers and playing a round of beach blanket bingo -- to varying degrees of success.

Performing her cover of John Anderson's "Swingin,'" from her 2010 album "Lady and Gentlemen," she bounced around the stage while dancers attempted to recreate what looked a scene from "Where The Boys Are."

Barely out of breath after getting tossed around by men in board shorts and riding a beached surf board, she offered her advice to the semi-finalists: "Believe in what you can do." Even if all you can do is stand around and watch your dog unsuccessfully attempt to play the accordion.

Dolly Parton's Dollywood Turns 25
"The Friendliest Town In The Smokies"

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. -- It's been 25 years since Dolly Parton bought a relatively small theme park near her hometown and christened it Dollywood. Today it offers everything you'd want in a family attraction, from surprisingly scary roller coasters and kid-friendly water rides to crowd-pleasing live shows and a big gift shop. Of course, Parton is a master of reinvention, and because of her connection to the park, Dollywood isn't just the same old song and dance, year after year.

To commemorate the 25th season, Parton and her business partners, Herschend Family Enterprises, unveiled a $6 million challenge course at the far end of the park where tourists of every shape and size safely strap themselves into a vest and harness, then tentatively make their way across a variety of rope swings, mountain facades and wobbly wooden steps. And looking up, they can see -- and occasionally hear the screams of -- adventurous visitors soaring on the Great Smoky Mountain Skyzip, high above the 150-acre park.

Starting on Sept. 29, the park will host a month-long National Gospel and Harvest Celebration. That's followed by Smoky Mountain Christmas, elaborately decorated for the season from Nov. 6 through Jan. 1, 2011.

Taylor Swift to the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Bowling fans have picked country star Taylor Swift as their 2010 choice for celebrity induction into the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame.

Swift barely beat pop star Justin Bieber to secure her lane in bowling history. They were among nine celebrities the Bowling Proprietors' Association of America nominated for their public support of the sport. Swift has been spotted and photographed bowling with friends. Swift bowls regularly, and she possesses all sorts of fame.

The association, in making the announcement Wednesday, says this is the first year that the celebrity induction process has been opened to fans. Nearly 1.3 million votes were cast online.

The museum, which moved from St. Louis last year, is based in the Dallas-Fort Worth suburb of Arlington. Swift's photo and plaque will be displayed at the site later this summer.

Tim McGraw Shirtless and in gym shorts

He Had A Barbecue Stain On His White T-Shirt: Headliner Tim McGraw didn't go "full monty," but he came pretty close to it during a prank for Lady Antebellum's last performance on his tour Saturday (8/7) in Toronto.

Shirtless and in gym shorts, McGraw and his Dancehall Doctors stormed the stage during "Love Don't Live Here." The antics didn't end there, as Brett Warren (the Warren Brothers) took over the drums in his boxers and bunny ears during the cover "Free Falling."

Lady A are now (hopefully) streaker-free in London, where they've sold out Wednsday's show (8/11) at Shepherd's Bush Empire. "We've been looking forward to going to the UK all summer," Lady A's Hillary Scott says. "I wish we were able to stay a little longer and travel around, but this will at least be a great introduction for us to the new fans and friends we are making over there."

Taylor Swift continues to be super busy.

Looks like Taylor Swift could use surf lessons, gridiron gear and possibly a New Year's Eve dress for her accelerating multimedia blitz. Back stateside Monday (8/9) after performing Japan's Summer Sonic Festival, Swift racked up four surfboard trophies at Sunday's (8/8) Teen Choice Awards: Favorite Country Artist, Country Song for "Fifteen," Country Album for Fearless and Female Breakout star for her role in Valentine's Day (Lady Antebellum took Favorite Country Group and Keith Urban landed Favorite Male Country Artist).

A helmet and shoulder pads may come in handy Sept. 9 when she joins the Dave Matthews Band at NFL Kickoff in New Orleans. Taylor will "play" prior to the league's season-opening game between the New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings; coverage starts at 6:30pm CT on NFL Network and continues at 7pm CT on NBC-TV.

Finally, a party dress may be in order, as word around the Web (E!, New York magazine and Cinema Blend) is that Swift might be the only original cast member slated for the Valentine's Day sequel titled New Year's Eve. According to E!, the people behind the project are thinking about having Swift star in the ensemble cast as a New York University student. In her spare time, she'll release her third studio album Speak Now Oct. 25.

The Tall and Taller Tour "American Ride"
6' 4" Toby and 6' 6" Trace

Spontaneous combustion is the only way to describe a Toby Keith/Trace Adkins concert ... "TNT" coming at you with such force that you feel the earth rising under your feet.

The two larger-than-life country stars had such a good time bringing down the house on their 2009 America's Toughest tour that they decided to hit the road together once again, this time under the banner of the American Ride tour. It's a show not to be missed, as two of the most celebrated country stars in history pack in crowd after fascinated crowd each night.

The JaneDear Girls

They’re experiencing their first-ever single, so they’re certainly green. And they plowed through everything in their way to get to No. 1, so they’ve got all the power of a John Deere tractor. Appropriately, the JaneDear girls are showcased at the top of his weekend’s Nan Kelley-hosted edition of GAC’s Top 20 Country Countdown.

The JaneDear girls — Danelle Leverett and Susie Brown — met on the Nashville club circuit and hit it off immediately. They scheduled a songwriting session together, and it went so well that they abandoned their solo careers to create a duo. They made some appearances at MuzikMafia shows and got the attention of John Rich, who helped them secure a recording deal with Warner Bros. and is producing the girls’ first album. Something’s clearly working, since “Wildflower” bolted from No. 13 to No. 1 on the Top 20 this week.

Cancer Charity Motorcycle Signed by Dolly Parton, Taylor Swift Stolen
August 11, 2010 -- LEXINGTON, Kentucky

PHOTO: Harley-Davidson Sportster pink motorcycle similar to the one stolen. The real one is signed by Taylor Swift, Tim McGraw, Dolly Parton and other country stars.

The Taylor Swift, Dolly Parton, and other country music celebrity autographed Harley-Davidson Sportster motorcycle that was stolen on Monday is still AWOL. The bike, chained inside a trailer was stole before a charity event could sell it help raise money for breast cancer. This tragic news is definitely disappointing as people sometimes don't go the right thing.

The Susan G. Komen for the Cure had this 2010 motorcycle, autographed by the stars stolen before the charity auction, but the entire incident is very odd. Leaving the cycle in the trailer, the thieves took the entire thing and not just the cycle.

When the theft was noticed, it was called in but nothing has been found yet. As this is a new vehicle with autographs, there is no doubt it must turn up somewhere in the United States. So when they do find these thieves of idiot proportion, we should definitely share some just punishment. The monies raised from selling this motorcycle would have helped breast cancer research and stealing from charities should never go unnoticed.

It was expected to fetch close to $100,000 at the foundation's Race for the Cure on October 16. The bike is pink and signed by the stars. If you spot it, contact your local police department.

The project will include the hits "Some People Change," "Lucky Man," "What Do Ya Think About That" and "Roll With Me," as well as three new songs -- "Life Beside a Gravel Road," "She Loves Me" and current single, "While You're Still Young."

Zac Brown Band has hit the top of the radio charts again with their current single “Free.” The song, their final single release from The Foundation has been climbing the charts all summer and finally hits the No. 1 spot on the Mediabase Country Airplay chart. The timing is perfect for ZBB as they have also just announced that fans can pre-order their next album, You Get What You Give, set for release on September 21. Visit www.ZacBrownBand.com to stream this album’s first single “As She’s Walking Away,” featuring Alan Jackson.

Charley Pride and a 18-person investment group headed by former pitcher Nolan Ryan placed the highest bid in a Fort Worth auction of the Texas Rangers ballclub, with a bid of $593 million, according to MLB.com. The transaction still has to be approved by Major League Baseball.

Alan Jackson earns ASCAP's Founders Award at the 48th annual ASCAP Country Music Awards on September 14. A statement from the performing rights organization described the award as “among the most important honors that ASCAP gives to songwriters and composers who have made pioneering contributions to music by inspiring and influencing their fellow music creators.”

Kenny Chesney Closes Final Day Of WE Fest’s Party
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. – August 7, 2010

Over the past decade, Kenny Chesney has taken country to the beach. Which made him a natural to headline WE Fest just outside Detroit Lakes. The singer closed out the three-day festival Saturday night with an energetic set of summer party anthems, like the openers “Beer in Mexico” and “Keg in the Closet.”

Anyone following the previous night’s headliners, Keith Urban and Kid Rock, would have had their work cut out for them. All Chesney had to do was show why he’s been the Academy of Country Music’s Entertainer of the Year four times in the past five years.

Anyone who hasn’t seen Chesney (between Fargo and WE Fest, he seems to be through at least every other year) was likely won over by his heated performance at the end of a muggy day. By “Big Star,” the third song in, he’d broken a good sweat moving from one end of the stage to the other.

The previous act, Dierks Bentley, had the energy to headline and bounced across the stage to tunes like “Feel That Fire,” “Lot of Leavin’ Left To Do” and “Sideways.”

Dierks Bentley and Gretchen Wilson performed at WE Fest 2010.

The girls in the crowd especially appreciated the curly-haired country crooner, and he appreciated the girls in “little white tank tops” by singing “What Was I Thinkin’.”

Gretchen Wilson was the only solo female on the WE Fest lineup, but she was more than tough enough for the late afternoon crowd, opening with her anthem, “Here for the Party.”

WE Fest, of course, is all about partying, and Wilson dedicated “There’s a Place for the Whiskey” to the crowd. A couple songs later, she cracked open a bottle of Jack Daniels and took a pull before “Walk on Water.” The bottle came back later for “All Jacked Up.”

Joe Nichols tapped the party theme earlier in the day. “We’d like to get everybody drunk by the time Kenny Chesney gets onstage.”

With six hours to go and the temperature in the 80s and humid, chances were good that was going to happen. The odds improved even more when he played his hits “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off” and “Let’s Get Drunk and Fight.”

WE FEST KICKS OFF IT'S BOOTS

Lucky Cowboy gets the girls at WE Fest. It's the hat!

WE FEST FRONT PAGE NEWS SATURDAY AUG. 07

DAY TWO: Crowd goes from Nashville to Detroit as Kid Rock keeps WE Fest going.

DETROIT LAKES, Minn. August 06, 2010 – Following electrifying sets by Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton and Eric Church is a tough order. Not many in Nashville could’ve topped Friday’s bill at WE Fest.

That’s why the country festival’s organizers looked outside of Nashville and country music altogether for a headliner. Kid Rock was man enough for the job.
Or more than man. Rock kicked off his set with “Rock & Roll Jesus” at 10:45 p.m.

If you think that gives the rocker a messiah complex, well, the 40,000 music fans on their feet were ready to follow the charismatic entertainer.

Kid Rock got his start in hip-hop before making it big during the nu metal boom. But his musical roots run deeper as he showed in “Son of Detroit.”
“I like to play Hank Williams records as loud as they will rock,” he sang, or rather, yelled.

Jason Aldean fired up the crowd with a 90-minute set of amped-up country. Guitar-driven tracks like “Johnny Cash” and “Big Green Tractor” had the crowd roaring. The heavy rhythm of “She’s Country” paved the way for Kid Rock’s big beats.

After Eric Church’s electric set, Shelton set the tone for one of country’s biggest parties with his anthem “It’s all About Tonight.”

Blake Shelton noted that many looked like they may have had too good a night on Thursday and were fighting hangovers. “This is clearly not the first day of WE Fest,” he said. He proposed an antidote for what ailed them – more country music.

“Talk about a bunch of drunk rednecks,” he said looking at the crowd, beer in hand. “Finally a crowd I can relate to.”

Gloriana performed at WE Fest on Thursday Aug. 5, 2010

Keith Urban caters to crowd at WE Fest day one
August 05, 2010
Detroit Lakes, Minn.

Keith Urban may be Australian, but he sure knows how to engage a Midwestern crowd. The singer/guitarist headlined the first night of WE Fest just outside Detroit Lakes, Minnesota on Thursday.

Urban took the stage to his hit “Kiss a Girl” and immediately won over the crowd, or at least the female demographic. Even men enjoyed the energetic performance and the fiery fret work he whipped out on the chart-topper “Days Go By.”

With his stage moves and facial expressions shown on the Jumbotron, he had fans singing along with “I’m In.” “Some performers want crowds to sit and listen to music and be on their best behavior,” he said before “Sweet Thing.”
“This is not one of those concerts,” he continued. “We want you to be on your baddest behavior.”

Montgomery Gentry really got the party started. In fact, that was their stated mission a number of times early in their set.

Montgomery Gentry played WE Fest Detroit Lakes, Minnesota on Aug. 05, 2010.

The duo’s energy and catchy choruses make for immediate stadium anthems like “Hell Yeah.” While singer/guitarist Troy Gentry stuck close to his illuminated microphone stand, singer Eddie Montgomery prowled the stage, twirling his stand, thrusting it toward the crowd to encourage sing-alongs.

For whatever reason, “My Town” didn’t prompt quite as enthusiastic response as I expected (maybe people are tired of the ubiquitous ode to civic pride), but “One in Every Crowd” hit closer to home.

The testosterone twosome brought the show to a close covering KISS’ “Rock and Roll All Nite” before ending with their own “Gone.”

Miranda Lambert celebrated at her No. 1 party for her song, "The House That Built Me." “The House That Built Me” touched a lot of people during its four-week stay at No. 1 this year. A bunch of people who were responsible for it — particularly Miranda Lambert and the song’s writers, Tom Douglas and Allen Shamblin — were honored for the accomplishment during a No. 1 party Tuesday at the swanky Nashville restaurant Sambuca.

Taylor Swift is among the country artists receiving nominations at this year's Teen Choice Awards. Carrie Underwood is Back!

Only Pretty Girls or "Only Prettier"

Laura Bell Bundy, Kellie Pickler, Lady Antebellum's Hillary Scott and Miranda Lambert all dressed up for Miranda's new video.

Miranda Lambert's upcoming video for her hit, 'Only Prettier,' certainly has some gorgeous star power. She's recruited Laura Bell Bundy, Kellie Pickler and Lady Antebellum's Hillary Scott to act in what's being described as a "mini movie." The plot centers around two rival cliques of high school girls at a 1950s sock hop.

Terri Clark has announced a solo acoustic tour starting Sept. 25 in Kansas City, Mo. The singer is partnering with Gibson Guitar for the Unplugged and Alone tour, with theater, casinos and club dates scheduled through Nov. 10 in Easton, Md. Clark released her newest album, The Long Way Home, in 2009. "I will be there on my chair, with my stomp box, and umpteen different guitars and a set list that will range from impromptu covers, to old album cuts.

Taylor Swift's "Fifteen" is nominated for best female video at the MTV Video Music Awards. The ceremony will take place Sept. 12 in Los Angeles. Swift's video for "You Belong With Me" won the best female video category in 2009 although her acceptance speech was interrupted by Kanye West.

Carrie Underwood comes to Bridgestone Arena in October

Billy Currington and Sons of Sylvia are scheduled to open the show. Tickets range from $35.50 to $55 and go on sale this Saturday, April 24, at 10 a.m.

Kellie Pickler Says "I need to cut out fries and beer!"
Getting her body ready for her wedding

Just like most brides, Kellie Pickler is working hard to get her body in great shape for her upcoming wedding. Although she looks stunning to us, she admits that she’s gained a little weight this year. She tells OK! Magazine “My thing is I’m such a night owl that I’ll go through the day without eating much – hardly at all – and then at night, I’ll cram it everything in and then go to bed. That’s why I’ve gained probably 12 pounds this year.”

Seeing herself on TV made Kellie realize that she needs to cut out two of her favorites – fries and beer! “I was looking back at the CMT Awards. My grandpa was in there on the couch, and I guess they were re-airing it on CMT. He had it on, and I went ‘oh s***, I have got to step away from the beer. The beer and the fries – I’ve gotta quit.’ You’ll see pictures of yourself, or you’ll put your clothes on, and you’ll be like ‘oh, my pants are too tight, I can’t breathe.’ You notice it. I’ve gotta start cutting back. That’s one reason I’m running on coffee today.”

Although she wants to drop a few pounds, don’t bet your money that she’ll lose it by hard work at the gym. She admits “I really don’t workout. I’m not an avid gym person. I mean, you can tell. I go through stages – like I’ll be good for a short time, and then I let myself go. Then, I try and pick up where I left off and get back in the gym. It’s just a lose-lose situation for me.”

While Kellie gets ready for her wedding, she’s touring the country with Rascal Flatts on their summer tour.

Gwyneth Paltrow teams with Vince Gill, Patty Griffin for 'Country Strong' single

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow spent her share of time immersed in country music while filming her upcoming movie here in Nashville. The film — initially dubbed Love Don't Let Me Down and now called Country Strong — has her playing a troubled country singer with Tim McGraw portraying her manager, and a host of local musicians and industry folks were also involved in its creation.

Also considering Paltrow's back story — being married to Coldplay singer Chris Martin, having recorded Smokey Robinson tune "Cruisin'" with Huey Lewis for 2000's Duets movie — it shouldn't be all that surprising that she's apparently showing up on the Country Strong soundtrack.

Tim McGraw To Star In Movie Based On Country Music

Country Song, the latest film starring country singer Tim McGraw, will be released on December 22. The film, which shot scenes in Nashville, co-stars Gwyneth Paltrow as Tim’s wife.

The movie also stars Garrett Hedlund and Leighton Meester, with Hedlund playing “a young rising singer-songwriter who becomes involved with a fallen country singer played by Paltrow. They embark on a career resurrection tour with her husband-manager (McGraw) and a beauty queen-turned-singer (Meester). Romantic entanglements and old demons threaten to derail them all,” according to People magazine.

Toby Keith will release a new album, Bullets in the Gun, on Oct. 5 on Show Dog-Universal. The album's lead single is "Trailerhood." Keith's next tour stop will be Thursday (July 22) in Boise, Idaho, with a string of West Coast tour dates later this month. Montgomery Gentry "Party Boys" Slowing Down?
Maybe on the hard stuff!

Lucky Cowboy remembers a few times spent on that Jim Beam tour bus and in the local bars after the MG shows and it was PARTY TIME.

Montgomery Gentry -- the award-winning duo of Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry -- were once known as much for their rough and rowdy ways as they were for their hit music. Singing songs like 'Hell Yeah' and 'Cold One Comin' On,' the pair made no secret of their love for having a good time both on and off the road. But now it seems the rock 'n roll lifestyle might finally be catching up with the boys.

"In the words of Hank Williams, Jr., 'the hangovers hurt more than they used to,'" Troy admits quote via Country Music Is Love. "I'm not quite the partier I used to be. I got protein powders and supplements and vitamins and everything sitting around. I've swapped the vodka and the wine out for vitamins and supplements these days. Got a bunch of the colorings and pictures from my little girl -- all of her little art work she does when she's out on the bus -- hung up on the refrigerators and on the windows and everything. It's more like home than it is the local neighborhood bar and pub."

"Yeah, we don't run quite as hard as we used to," adds Eddie. "It takes too many days to get over it."

Eddie and Troy spent part of their summer with Heidi Newfield, James Otto, Jamey Johnson and several other acts on the Country Throwdown tour, where Troy says his idea of a good time was catching other performances and playing late-night jam sessions.

Getting ready for a busy fall, the guys are planning on building a playground in their home state of Kentucky, as recipients of the 2010 Academy of Country Music/Hope Depot Humanitarian Award, in recognition of their ongoing charitable contributions. They will also spend a lot of time on the road, supporting their new CD, 'Gravel Road,' which will hit stores in September.

Dixie Chicks back to the studio?

Court Yard Hounds/Dixie Chicks member Martie Maguire tells Billboard.com that we can expect to hear some new sounds from the Chicks soon. But it'll be alongside a new collaborator: Banjo man/actor/comedian Steve Martin has tapped Maguire and her bandmates to sing on a track from the in-the-works follow-up to his The Crow: New Songs For the 5-String Banjo.

"It was right up our alley, because we are looking for projects that are fun and exciting and different, and that's just something that's perfect," Maguire told Billboard.com. "Of course we said yes to begin with, but then he sent the song and it's really good, so we're really excited. I think we assumed we were going to play, but he's got this amazing bluegrass band (North Carolina's Steep Canyon Rangers), so we're just harmonizing."

Billboard naturally inquired about whether this might be a step toward a new Dixie Chicks album — which would follow up 2006's Taking the Long Way. Fellow Chicks/Hounds member Emily Robison was somewhat vague/diplomatic when it came to predicting.

"We just kind of (take) one thing at a time as far as opportunities from the outside," she said. "I think we're excited to start writing again and getting new songs for whatever project they happen to be for. But (The Dixie Chicks) had a lot of fun in June playing with the Eagles, so I would dare say that in the next nine months we'll be doing something, one way or another."

Trace Adkins returns to the big screen with a part in The Lincoln Lawyer, due for release next year. The movie is based on the novel written by Matthew McConaughey. We're told the storyline is about a Beverly Hills attorney who runs his business out of his Lincoln Town Car and represents high-profile clients. The film also stars Marisa Tomei, William H Macy, John Leguizamo with rumors circulating that Michael Pere is also involved. Word is, Trace is the leader of a biker gang.

JESSIE JAMES “Hot as hell, even in the shade”

Visit: JESSIE JAMES MY SPACE

Jessie James was born Jessica Rose James, on April 12, 1988. James is a country music singer and songwriter. Ms James was born on a military base in Vicenza, Italy. She has some Italian ancestry. She relocated to Warner Robins, Georgia, when she was a teen, in the 1990s.

James traveled to Nashville weekly to learn more about songwriting in the heart of country music’s land. Soon, James cut some demo tracks and they were brought to the attention of the president of Mercury Records and Def Jam Records. Mercury gave James a record deal.

Mercury Records introduced Kara DioGuardi, a songwriter, to help James get her songs ready for her first album. Jessie James had the chance to collaborate with Katie Perry for a few songs. Two of the songs in James’ debut album were penned together with Katie Perry.

“Boys in the Summer”

“Boys are so much hotter/In the summer/Take your shirt off/In the water/Pull me under/I must be dreaming/You got me singing.” “Boys in the Summer”

Why should California Gurls have all the fun? Jessie James carries the torch for southern pop, as the 22-year-old Georgia girl comes with the heat on the first single from her sophomore Mercury Records album.

Co-written by Jessie with James Michael (Motley Crue, Papa Roach, Alanis Morissette), and opening with some bluesy rock guitar riffs right out of ZZ Top, “Boys in the Summer” imagines it’s “hot as hell, even in the shade,” while squeezing out a little bit of lemonade, standing on line at the Dairy Queen or laying on the hood of your car.

“It was inspired by an ex-boyfriend who I wasn’t really attracted to until the summer,” she laughs. “That’s when he had a tan and a little bit more muscle from being in the sun.”

A larger-than-life talent in a petite package, the “little-bit-of Greek, and predominantly Italian” James has been ready for her close-up since she was two, when the well-traveled military brat, born a fiery Aries in a military field hospital in Italy, began singing into a toy microphone and tape recorder, a gift from her mom. By the time she was nine, she was composing her own songs on a plastic guitar, performing at the opening of Sea World and the Republican Convention, before auditioning, and getting turned down, for every country record label in Nashville, despite winning a yodeling contest at the age of 9.

Described as “southern pop,” Jessie’s music is a candid celebration of her pop and country influences. “I’ve wanted to do country music my whole life,” she says. “But I’m really inspired by the pop world as well. I love both Christina Aguilera and Shania Twain, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.”

Working with the likes of Katy Perry, Kara DioGuardi, Mitch Allan and Jamey Johnson, her debut album produced the Top 25 pop and Top 20 dance hit, “Wanted,” a song she co-wrote with DioGuardi, Allan and David Hodges. The swaggering, hip-hop-influenced “Blue Jeans” was featured on the soundtrack of the hit Touchstone film version of the best-selling novel, Confessions of a Shopaholic, while Perez Hilton previewed the twangy “My Cowboy” on his influential website.

Maxim magazine named her one of the 100 hottest women in the world.

Maxim magazine named her one of the 100 hottest women in the world, and she went to the Middle East with Kid Rock and Carlos Mencia to perform for the U.S. troops stationed overseas. The daughter of an Air Force officer, Jessie says, “I felt right at home. Many of the people I saw over there were friends of my dad.”

July 21, 2010

Country singer Taylor Swift out with a new mystery man in West Hollywood, CA the popular singer who used to date Taylor Lautner and her mystery beau had breakfast at Lulu's restaurant before heading to pick up some art supplies.

Taylor and Toby were spotted out together at LuLu's Cafe in Los Angeles on Friday, July 16. One restaurant patron told the site, "This was without a doubt a date, they were very happy and laughing with each other the entire time. It was very cute to see her in such a good mood."

Miranda Lambert Headlines CMT Fall Tour

CMT's ninth annual CMT on Tour kicks off this fall with headliner Miranda Lambert, special guest Eric Church and introducing Josh Kelley. The nationwide tour kicks off in New York on Sept. 29.

Video: Miranda Lambert On Tour : The House That Built Me

Following a year full of impressive accolades and her first-ever headlining tour, Texas singer-songwriter Miranda Lambert is prepared to hit the road again this fall as the headlining act for CMT on Tour: Miranda Lambert Revolution.

When Lambert won top female honors at both the ACM and CMT Awards earlier this year, her first reaction was "shock" followed by gratefulness. It wasn't until she embarked on her first headlining tour that the gravity of her accomplishments hit home. As a result, she felt an overwhelming sense of responsibility to deliver a live show even better than the one she was already known for. Country fans will witness that commitment as Lambert headlines CMT's ninth annual tour.

The nationwide tour will include special guest Eric Church and will also introduce singer-songwriter Josh Kelley to a country audience. The tour kicks off in New York on Sept. 29. Produced by AEG Live, previous CMT tours have featured such superstars as Trace Adkins, Jason Aldean, Randy Houser, Jamey Johnson, Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, Sugarland and Keith Urban.
